Pamela Brooke was my nan, and she was a fantastic one. Thanks Laura for writing some of the memories below. It’s lovely to read them. As Laura said; we were both very lucky to live 5min away from nan. I remember stopping round at least a few days every week after school. I’d take my friends or girlfriends over and nan would make us food and take care of us. Some of the earliest memories I have are of nan and grandad. I remember being caught on Christmas eve under the dinner table in the middle of night, having woken up to eat all the foil wrapped chocolates off the tree. I remember trips to Selsy Bill with nan and grandad; catching crabs on the beach. Feeding the ducks by the pond. Visiting the lifeboat. I remember - as Laura said - being the taster for nan. I remember seeing nan marching up stoats nest hill, aged 80 or so, at a pace that most people would struggle to keep up with. I remember nan’s chicken soup. She made a delicious chicken soup with the whole chicken, and big chunks of potato. I tried to recreate it myself but fell short, I think Sarah might have the recipe. I miss the pink grapefruit and glacé cherries she made for me, and the bowl of coco pops with massive dollop of extra thick double cream :’D I miss nan showing me around the garden; all the mint she grew, her tulips, her roses, and the hanging baskets she kept. I miss the polished brass she used to keep on the fireplace. Especially the fly. I remember that really well for some reason! I am honestly so lucky to have had such an excellent nan. I last saw you a couple of years ago, and you were still so full of energy and happiness. Thanks for all the memories nan. I love you x
